    Redmi Pad 2 Pro hands-on

Xiaomi hosted a big event this week where we saw the debut of several new devices, including the Redmi Pad 2 Pro. We got to test out the Pad 2 Pro with the Matte Glass screen, and these are our first impressions.

For a €380 tablet, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro Matte Glass Version looks and feels like a more expensive device. It brings an aluminum unibody, which is cool to the touch, and at 610 grams, it has some heft to it, but not in a bad way. It actually feels lighter than what you’d expect from a tablet of this size, and it’s fairly slim too at 7.5mm.

The 12.1-inch IPS LCD features a 1,600 x 2,560 px resolution, alongside a 120Hz refresh rate and a tall 16:10 aspect ratio. The panel is rated at up to 600 nits of peak brightness, which is not that high compared to more expensive tablets, but it looked decent while we tested it indoors.

The matte textured screen was great at keeping reflections at bay, which is always important on larger screens. The panel is flanked by quad speakers with Dolby Atmos support, which produce decent volume.

Going around the device, we have the power button and two of the four speakers and at the top. Sadly, there’s no fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button, which is a strange omission that plagues a lot of recently launched Android tablets for some reason.

The right-hand side houses the volume rocker and microSD card slot, while the bottom has two more speakers, the USB-C port, and there’s even room for a good old 3.5mm headphone jack.

Xiaomi is offering several first-party accessories for the Pad 2 Pro, including a flip cover, a keyboard case and a Redmi Smart Pen stylus with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The cover and keyboard feature a dedicated holster for the stylus, which is nice for those times when you’re on the go.

While we’re on the topic, the Pad 2 Pro’s humongous 12,000 mAh battery, coupled with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, should deliver ample running times. You also get 33W wired charging, which is not the fastest, but it’s still better than what some competitors are offering.

As for performance, Pad 2 Pro felt smooth and responsive in our initial tests. Simple tasks like web browsing with constant switching between multiple tabs, media playback and multitasking all felt great. We’ll make sure to provide more details on its sustained performance and benchmarks in our full review. A quick word on the software side – we’re running HyperOS 2 based on Android 15, though an update to HyperOS 3 is coming soon.

    Redmi Pad 2 Pro hands-on

That’s all we have for the Pad 2 Pro for now. It seems like a solid midrange tablet, but we’ll reserve our verdict for our full review.
