The next State of Play showcase is finally happening. A couple of times a year, Sony will hold one of these presentations to highlight upcoming first-party, third-party, and indie games coming to PS5, PS5 Pro, PS4, and PlayStation VR2. We know for sure that this showcase will feature Saros, the next game from Returnal developer Housemarque.
This showcase is also perfectly timed with Tokyo Game Show, a Japanese gaming expo that has already been home to reveals like Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties and Annapurna Interactive’s 2026 game lineup. 2025 has been a quieter year for PlayStation, with a couple of key highlights like Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach making up for the lack of more exclusives and lackluster titles such as Lost Soul Aside.
With this State of Play, PlayStation Studios has a chance to give a better idea of what 2026’s PS5 exclusive game lineup will look like. On top of that, we’ll probably also get to see some unexpected and neat-looking games from other studios that we’ll want to play on PS5 in the coming months and years.
Regardless of what shows up, a lot is going to be revealed over the course of this 35+ minute State of Play. I’ll be live-blogging throughout the showcase, so pay attention to this article to find out what is revealed for PS5 once the event begins at 5 p.m. ET this afternoon.
State of Play Live Updates
[3:30] Third-party and indie State of Play predictions
These are much harder to predict, but I’d love for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra to finally reappear here. That’s another mysterious single-player action-adventure Marvel game with a neat premise (Captain America and Black Panther working together during World War 2) that we haven’t seen in action in quite a while. I’m always down to be delighted by a surprising and innovative indie game too, so hopefully something like that will show up in an hour and a half.
[3:00] First-party State of Play predictions
We’re now two hours out from the start of the State of Play. That means it’s time to start thinking about what we’d love to see in the showcase. While I doubt it appears, I’d love to finally see more of Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games. It’s wild to think about the fact that Sony hasn’t officially shown that game off since it was first teased four years ago. If it’s out next year, now would be a great time to release a new trailer for the game.
