Why you SHOULDN’T shoot downed enemies in Battlefield Redsec

You know how it is in the heat of the battle in Battlefield 6 Redsec. You down an enemy, and you immediately want to make sure they don’t get back up again.

But hold up, wait a minute.

There is a mechanic that isn’t particularly well explained — especially if you just jumped in without doing the training stuff — that can make your life so much easier. Instead of lasering them from afar, if you can get in close for a takedown, you’ll be much better off.

So, what am I talking about? If you get close to a downed enemy, you can finish them with a takedown, instead of using your weapons. Why bother? Because if you do this, the live locations of the rest of their squad will be revealed. So it makes getting a squad wipe that bit easier.

    The process is this:

    • Down an enemy.
    • Approach the enemy until you see the takedown prompt.
    • Takedown the enemy, short animation plays out.
    • See teammates locations.

You’ll see a live ping, but not for more than a few seconds. Nevertheless, in the heat of the battle, those few seconds can make all the difference.

Redsec isn’t like Call of Duty: Warzone, in that the mini-map is constantly showing up enemy locations. It requires a lot more observation and teamwork, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use a little unfair advantage from time to time.

The important part is that you have to see the prompt on the screen, first. If you go in swinging, it’ll count as a regular melee kill, and you won’t get your sweet, sweet live pings.

The other side of the coin is that while you can do this to your opponents, they can do the same to your squad. If one of your team is taken down this way, your location will be revealed.

You do at least get warned, but if it happens, do not stand still. Move and keep moving. A moving target is harder to hit, and the last thing you want to do is dig in when someone knows exactly where you are.

It’s a risk versus reward situation. If it’s a mid to long range elimination, you’re probably not going to want to risk running up to complete a takedown. But if it’s a close range fight, then the reward is probably worth taking a chance.
