Almost a full month earlier than last year, the new FE phone is here – the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE brings a couple of key improvements, but is overall a relatively small change from the 2024 model.

Samsung engineers managed to slim the phone down, shaving off 23g off its weight and fractions of a millimeter from each of the three dimensions. The Galaxy S25+ is smaller, though, despite having the same 6.7″ screen. Well, the same size – the Plus actually has a 1440p+ panel and not 1080p+ like the two FEs.

    Galaxy S25+ 158.4mm 75.8mm 7.3mm 190g
    Galaxy S25 FE 161.3mm 76.6mm 7.4mm 190g
    Galaxy S24 FE 162.0mm 77.3mm 8.0mm 213g

What’s impressive about this is that Samsung managed to fit a larger battery in this – 4,900mAh, a 200mAh increase over the S24 FE. Something similar happened with the Z Flip7 earlier this year. Even better, wired charging was bumped up from 25W to 45W. This means that despite the larger battery capacity, the Galaxy S25 FE can get to 65% in 30 minutes, compared to 50% on the S24 FE. Wireless charging also gets a boost to 25W.

That’s it for the major changes. Samsung switched over to the regular Exynos 2400 chipset, which has slightly higher clocks than the 2400e used in last year’s model. However, a true performance improvement would have come from adding more RAM – 8GB is the only option and it’s not much for a phone that will get 7 OS updates (Android changes significantly over that amount of time).

A camera upgrade might have been nice and indeed the selfie camera goes up from 10MP to 12MP, but that’s barely worth mentioning. The 50+8+12MP rear camera is the same as last year.

Here are the prices for the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE – they are the same as the launch prices of the S24 FE last year. Note that the 512GB model is not available in North America.

What do you think of the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE – is it the right phone for you or do you plan on upgrading to a different device when the time comes?
