Verizon Offers New Internet Plan That Could Cost $25 Per Month

If you’re a Verizon customer with internet issues, there might be a solution for you. This week, the carrier launched a plan called Home Internet Lite, which it says is “aimed at helping connect customers with limited connectivity options or those on the hunt for a low-cost option.”

There are several price points. If customers get it straight up with no discounts, the internet plan costs $60 per month. But you can get it down to $25 per month if you do three things:

    1. Bundle it with a phone plan (saves $15).
    2. Enable AutoPay (saves $10).
    3. Sign up before Dec. 31 (saves $10 more when bundled with a phone plan).

You can lock in the $25 monthly price for three years.

Some customers can also get Home Internet Lite for as low as $20 per month with their Verizon Forward program. People who participate in certain Federal Assistance programs, like SNAP, might qualify for this discount.

Verizon said the plan is best suited for people who have to rely on DSL or satellite for internet and who only have light internet use, such as “browsing, sending emails and streaming shows.” Home Internet Lite is provided via the company’s cellular network.

“This new offering expands Verizon’s home internet across the country and reinforces the company’s commitment to providing more choice for customers, especially in areas previously outside of its Fios and 5G Home internet footprint,” Verizon said in a statement.

    Slower speeds in comparison

We’ve covered the cost of the new plan, but what about the internet quality itself? Verizon says Home Internet Lite download speeds will get up to 25Mbps but that reduces to 10Mbps maximum after you’ve reached 150GB of data use in the same month.

Data use varies greatly depending on how you use the internet but for comparison purposes, watching an ultra-high-definition video stream for an hour could burn up to 10GB of data on a 5G network.

Internet plans from other cellphone carriers offer higher download speeds. Mint Mobile, for example, provides up to 415Mbps until you reach 1TB of usage in a month, after which point you “may notice slower speeds.” Mint’s cheapest internet plan is $30 per month if you already have a Mint phone plan.

T-Mobile’s download speed is also up to 415Mbps, but it will start slowing down after you use 1.2TB of data. Its cheapest plan is $30 per month, temporarily marked down from $55.
