The PC game releases we’re most excited about in September 2025

September is a return to a much busier month for game releases after a slower summer window, and as I look ahead to October, I’m thankful for the brief lull we had. If you didn’t know already, September is Hollow Knight: Silksong month, and I’m pretty sure I could hear the collective shouts of joy from its fanbase around the world when Team Cherry made the announcement during Gamescom. I don’t even go here, but I’m happy to get just a smidge of good news about game dev these days, so Silksong’s story had me cheering along, too.

But there’s more ahead for the month after the Hollow Knight sequel’s big debut early on. Borderlands 4 makes its return with another 4-player adventure the week after, while Dying Light: The Beast and Silent Hill F start horror season early in mid-September. And then there’s the love(s) of my life, Ramza and Delita, bringing in the rear with Final Fantasy Tactics: Ivalice Chronicles. It’s been well over a decade since I last played Tactics, so I’m eager to see if it still resonates with me. My money is on yes, absolutely.

There’s plenty here to tide you over before the upcoming games calendar overwhelms us all in October, so get to planning with my list of game releases, updates, and events for September 2025.

    September’s big PC release dates

    Hollow Knight: Silksong

Silksong launches on September 4—a release date announced to the surprise of everyone (including a handful of unlucky devs) during this year’s Gamescom. To say there are high hopes for the Hollow Knight sequel feels like an understatement, but my colleague Robin Valentine said he’s “desperate to play another 100 hours” after his half hour Silksong preview, so I’m resting easy while we wait.

A psycho in Borderlands 4 stands ready for battle. Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 introduces its new vault hunting crew on September 12, and it certainly sounds like a departure from the third game’s messy tone. According to director Sam Wrinkler, Borderlands 4 aims to strike a better balance with “humor, levity, and authentic character storytelling that takes itself seriously.” I am a certified Claptrap hater, but I’m open to any emotional appeal Gearbox makes next month.

Character looking into the camera Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast takes its zombie out to pasture with a more rural setting on September 19. I haven’t messed with Dying Light much since the first game launched, but as someone hailing from the “hey y’all” capital of the world, I have to admit its middle of nowhere tour through open farmland and swampy thickets is the perfect play to get my attention. It’s also free for Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition owners.

A grown man toddling about, walking down a log balanced over a trench. Baby Steps

We’re taking Baby Steps on September 23. In Bennett Foddy’s next torture engine you’ll toddle about as Nate, an unemployed mess of a man that needs help putting one foot in front of the other. My colleague Christopher Livingston tried out the Baby Steps demo and went on an emotional rollercoaster of delightful frustration. Lots of laughing, lots of falling, and finally… ragequit.

    Scarecrow enemies Silent Hill F

Silent Hill F takes the series in a new direction when it launches on September 25. I count myself among those not so sure about the action, but the total pivot to embrace Japanese horror and a character arc shaped by the 1960s Japanese women’s rights movement has it on my must-play list for the month. Plus with Spirit Hunter artist Kera and When They Cry creator Ryukishi07, I think we’re in good hands.

Final Fantasy Tactics protagonists Final Fantasy Tactics: Ivalice Chronicles

Final Fantasy Tactics: Ivalice Chronicles closes out the month on September 30 with a nostalgic remaster of Square’s tactical RPG king. Well, I say remaster, but it’s one of those in the grey zone between that and a remake as so much of it was reconstructed without the original source code. Whatever the result may be, Tactics is an all-timer, and I’m crossing my fingers this release will be its definitive version.
