The Moto G 5G (2024) is a $200 smartphone that offers solid performance, excellent audio, and good battery life. It’s now even more affordable thanks to a small discount and also comes with a Moto Tag smart tag if you grab it from Motorola.

It’s not often that we see budget phones fall to a price that just can’t be ignored. Sure, we’ve seen small discounts here and there, but this discount takes it beyond that, making the Moto G 5G one of the best budget phones to pick up right now. When it comes to the price, you’re looking at $130 from Best Buy, which is $70 off retail. If you’re looking to score more of a bundle, Motorola has it for $150, but also offers a free Moto Tag smart tag. Regardless of where you choose to buy it from, you’ll have some options. However, Best Buy is offering the best price, but you’ll want to be quick about picking it up, because it won’t be around for long.

A surprise discount makes this the budget king

The budget phone segment is a highly competitive one, which means companies need to make smart decisions when it comes to compromises. If you cut too much, and you’re left with a phone that nobody wants. If the phone is really good, but the price is a little too high, you’re again left with a phone that nobody wants. We think Motorola does a great job in the lower and mid-range, offering a range of devices that come with all the features you want but at a price that’s fair.

The Moto G 5G is a pretty good example with a 6.6-inch 120Hz display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded using the microSD card slot. You also get 5G connectivity, which isn’t all that common on lower-end phones. The battery life is also pretty good here, with a 5,000mah battery, along with 18W wired charging via USB-C. And the phone even has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which we don’t see much of nowadays.

When it comes to the cameras, you’re getting a 50MP main shooter and 2MP ultrawide, along with an 8MP front-facing camera as well. It comes loaded with Android 14, but there’s also an update to Android 15 that’s now available. So, you’ll want to get your phone up to date once you purchase it to get all the latest features. Overall, this is a budget phone that should be great for most people that just want something that works. Taking and making calls, messaging family and friends, streaming some videos, and other core uses will be no issues for this phone.

Naturally, everyone has different ways they use phones, so if you’re worried about the performance here, you might want to buy it and try it out, or move onto something with a little more power. With that said, you’ll be paying a little more, but as stated before, the mid-range choices are very tempting in 2025. If the Moto G 5G is the one for you, we recommend you grab it before it’s gone.
