Google has been rolling out a major visual refresh for one of its core productivity apps, Google Keep. The update adopts Material 3 Expressive, a design style built around smoother visuals, stronger accents, and a more engaging feel. The rollout kicked off in late July 2025, and the new look is now widely available on Android.
The update leans on expressive design touches like smooth animations that make the app feel more alive. The standout tweak is a redesigned search bar that starts with “Google Keep” before switching over to “Search Keep,” a detail first spotted by 9to5Google.
Next to the search bar, you’ll still find your profile photo on one side and the hamburger menu on the other, with the navigation drawer working just as before. Tapping the search bar opens a new interface that shows pill-shaped icons for every category.
Right next to the column switcher, a new “Sort by” option, marked by up and down arrows, lets you organize your notes. You can now filter your view by a note’s creation or modification date, in addition to the standard custom sorting.
The bottom toolbar now features a floating action button (FAB) that pops open into a quick-create menu. The FAB itself has been updated too, with icons for Audio, Image, Drawing, List, and Text showing up first before their text labels.
The notes screen has been rearranged with a cleaner setup. Pin, reminder, and archive buttons now sit in rounded squares at the top-right. At the bottom, you’ll see circular buttons for adding, changing colors/backgrounds, and formatting. The overflow menu has switched to a pill-shaped button, and the last edited date and time now appear at the top of that sheet.
Google Keep’s Material 3 Expressive redesign is rolling out broadly through a server-side update, tied to version 5.25.332.00.90. It’s not just a one-off refresh, as this update is part of Google’s larger push to bring the same design language across its apps, following recent updates to apps like Phone, Contacts, and Find Hub.
