The Black Ops 7 Camo grind is less stressful than last year, with one big change everyone will love

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is here. With it, as is traditional, comes a whole new Camo grind to undertake. This year there are four extra Mastery Camos to get, with the Campaign and its Endgame mode joining the party.

I’ve seen before launch some folks saying how the new grind is going to be more painful thanks to that extra mode adding even more for completionists to unlock. Fortunately, while much of the Camo grind in this year’s game is similar to Black Ops 6, one big change makes it easier at the very top tier.

Once you unlock the final Mastery Camo, it’s applied to all weapons at once. This year, you don’t have to complete a challenge on each of the weapons to be able to use it. Or any challenge, at all.

    From the Activision blog post:

The Final Mastery Camos has no individual Challenge; they unlock automatically in a similar way to legacy Black Ops titles: Unlock the Third Mastery Camo on your chosen weapon, then complete the following:

    • Genesis (CM): Unlock Chroma Flux on 30 total weapons.
    • Singularity (MP): Unlock Tempest on 30 total weapons.
    • Infestation (ZM): Unlock Doomsteel on 30 total weapons.
    • Apocalypse (WZ): Unlock Absolute Zero on 30 total weapons.

Similar steps, but less of them per mode

In Black Ops 6, the process to get the reactive Mastery camo involved doing the second-last Mastery Camo on 33 weapons, then doing a specific challenge on each weapon you wanted to use the final one on.

Using Multiplayer as an example, for Dark Spine, you had to get to Diamond on 33 weapons before you could begin. Then 33 lots of Dark Spine to start Dark Matter.

All the latest news, reviews, and guides for Windows and Xbox diehards.

It’s the same process in Black Ops 7 right up until the last tier. Again, using Multiplayer as the example, once you complete Tempest on 33 weapons, you’ll get the Singularity Camo immediately to use on every weapon. You don’t have to complete a challenge to do it on a single weapon.

The Military camos, the ones to get you started, follow the Black Ops 6 pattern, too. Headshots in Multiplayer, Critical Kills in Zombies (and the new Campaign Camo grind), and Eliminations in Warzone. The Warzone Camos won’t be live until the integration of the mode with Black Ops 7 in Season 01.

Activision’s blog details all of the various requirements for Camos in Black Ops 7.

The same amount of challenges to complete for more rewards

With the addition of Campaign, that makes 16 Mastery Camos in Black Ops 7. However, given you don’t have to do anything for the final Camo in each mode, you have 12 tiers that you actually need to complete challenges on.

That’s the same amount as in Black Ops 6 if you were going for Dark Matter, Abyss, and Nebula, with the added bonus that from those 12 tiers you’ll now get 16 full sets of Mastery Camo. So it’s a little easier to absolutely complete, but will probably take the same sort of time as the Black Ops 6 grind.

Let’s also not forget that some of the weapons will be absolutely horrible. Who here gave up trying to do Launchers early on in Black Ops 6?

What will add to the grind for the players who have to have all the Camos are the new ones you get through Weapon Prestige. At each tier of Weapon Prestige, you unlock a new Camo, and you can do this on every weapon in the game.

So stock up on beverages and snacks, and get ready to lock in, and play like a degenerate to unlock them all as fast as possible. Or go absolutely insane trying.
