Samsung took a bold step with the release of the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this year. However, things clearly haven’t gone to plan, with recent reports suggesting the company may not release the Galaxy S26 Edge next year due to poor demand for the predecessor. We’re now receiving new information from a reputable source, indicating that the flagship may not be dead after all.
According to the folks at GalaxyClub, not only is Samsung intent on keeping the Galaxy S26 Edge around, but it will also be thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge. Exactly how much thinner this new flagship will be is still unspecified.
Furthermore, it is said that the upcoming Edge phone codenamed “More Slim” entered development much after what was initially believed to be the Galaxy S26 Edge. The More Slim codename makes sense here, given that the Galaxy S25 Edge was internally known as “Slim.”
In simpler terms, this means the Galaxy S26 Edge that was in the works earlier will differ from the model that will eventually be released. All of this suggests that Samsung hadn’t made up its mind about the upcoming Galaxy S26 series until recently.
What does this mean for the Galaxy S26 Plus?
This comes as Samsung is reportedly retaining the existing naming scheme for the Galaxy S26 models, after initial reports suggested the company would launch Pro and Edge variants in place of the vanilla Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus.
GalaxyClub’s report reiterates the notion that the Galaxy S26 Plus will exist, with the Galaxy S26 Edge possibly launching slightly later. This would be similar to how Samsung managed the release of its Edge flagship earlier this year.
Separately, we’ve learned that Samsung could push the release of its Galaxy S26 flagships beyond the usual timeframe. If true, this should give the manufacturer enough time to readjust, assuming no other changes are on the horizon.
There’s also some ambiguity about whether the company will even call it the Galaxy S26 Edge when (and if) it debuts next year, so there are more questions than answers about Samsung’s next-gen slim flagship right now.
In the meantime, the first beta of One UI 8.5 has seemingly been delayed, potentially due to the internal confusion around the Galaxy S26 lineup.
