Qualcomm announces its new Dragonwing Q-6690 chipset aimed at enterprise customers and integrating essential technologies for businesses in the retail, manufacturing and logistics. Perhaps the most important bit about this chipset is the integration of RFID. That makes it the world’s first chip with built-in RFID.

In addition to the fully integrated UHF RFID capabilities, the SoC also offers 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and UWB connectivity. The ultra-wideband supporting proximity-aware experiences will likely come in handy to many businesses, especially those that maintain a large inventory.

With the chip integrating all of these solutions, OEMs and ODMs can work on various form factors, and additional RFID modules won’t be needed anymore. RFID is important, as it’s a staple technology for businesses worldwide. Decathlon, for example, one of Qualcomm’s partners in this endeavor, says that it adopted RFID back in 2004.

Software support isn’t overlooked either. Qualcomm promises timely updates and new features in the future that can be pushed via OTA software updates. Additionally, the company offers configurable feature packs, allowing OEMs to select which ones to include based on their computing demands, multimedia and camera capabilities, and peripheral configurations.

Qualcomm has already partnered with Decathlon, RAIN Alliance and EssilorLuxottica.
