Pixel 10 Pro Fold will support faster Qi2 wireless charging

Google’s foldables phones have always been inferior to their slab siblings in a few aspects. Slow charging speed is one of them, with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold only capable of pulling 7.5W of power wirelessly. Google’s upcoming third-gen foldable — the Pixel 10 Pro Fold — might fix this issue for good. But compared to the rest of the Pixel 10 family, you’ll seemingly have to wait to get your hands on the device.

In less than a week from now, Google will take the wraps off the Pixel 10 family, Pixel Watch 4, and the Pixel Buds 2a. While leaks point to the Pixel 10 and its Pro sibling going up for pre-orders right after the event, other Pixel devices might only hit the markets in October.

Leaker Evan Blass now confirms this in a post on X, saying the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 4, and the Pixel Buds 2a will not launch until October 9. On the bright side, he also confirmed the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be Qi2-compliant.

Before you get too excited, this only means that the phone will support 15W wireless charging. And like other Android phones with Qi2 compatibility, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will likely not feature native MagSafe-like magnetic charging. Hopefully, Google’s upcoming Pixelsnap cases will add magnetic wireless charging support to the foldable.

Hopefully, Google will also relocate the charging coil to a better position to ensure the Pixel 10 Pro Fold works with most wireless charging stands.

No Qi2.2 means no 25W charging speed support

Since the leaker explicitly mentions Qi2, it also rules out support for the new Qi2.2 standard recently announced by the Wireless Power Consortium, which enables wireless charging speeds of up to 25W. Given Google’s key role in developing this spec, other devices in the Pixel 10 lineup will likely support it.

The lack of Qi 2.2 and native magnetic wireless charging support on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be a letdown. On the bright side, 15W would still be twice as fast as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s, finally making wireless charging a viable option. It will also pair well with the larger 5,015mAh battery and a more power-efficient Tensor G5 chip on Google’s next foldable.
