It’s Android flagship season in China right now, and today is Oppo’s turn. It has revealed the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro, with industry-leading specs for both the cameras and batteries. Unlike sister company OnePlus, Oppo has maintained its relationship with Hasselblad, now extending it to a branded telephoto extender lens. Oppo also promised a global launch to come later this month.

I’ve had the Find X9 Pro for a couple of days, including the Hasselblad lens. I have a full review in the works, but in the meantime, I can share photos of my review sample, plus a few sample shots I’ve taken with the camera.

The Pro has an impressive triple rear camera, led by a 200-megapixel, 3x telephoto lens, which is what I used to capture all the sample shots below. While subsidiary OnePlus has ended its partnership with Hasselblad, Oppo hasn’t, so the Find X9 phones still feature Hasselblad color tuning, filters, and an extra-wide option inspired by its XPan format. The camera company’s logo is also found on both the phone and the new telephoto extender lens add-on.

This is remarkably similar to the Vivo telephoto extender I reviewed with the X200 Ultra this year, with only slight tweaks to the design, though the 3.28x zoom distance goes further than the Vivo’s 2.35x. Vivo and Oppo used to have shared ownership under BBK Electronics, though are independently operated now — it looks more likely that the similarities are down to both companies contracting the same accessory maker, PGYTech, to build the kit.

Oppo’s kit includes a magnetic ring light and a camera grip, though I’m not sure if those elements will be included in the global launch — I was only sent the telephoto lens and the case needed to attach it. I’ll be testing it more ahead of a full review, but here are a few shots taken using the lens at the 10x zoom distance it defaults too.

Just like other major Chinese players including Xiaomi and Honor, Oppo has leaned hard on battery capacity for this year’s flagships, taking advantage of silicon-carbon designs that allow it to include larger capacities without sacrificing slimness. The Find X9 Pro has a colossal 7,500mAh capacity — matching Xiaomi’s 17 Pro Max — with the Find X9 only a little smaller at 7,025mAh, enough for two days of use according to Oppo. Interestingly, unlike Honor, Oppo hasn’t announced plans for smaller batteries outside China, raising the hope that users worldwide might get the same longevity.

Both phones use the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, though that still means flagship power. They also feature both a customizable AI button and Oppo’s returning touch-sensitive camera shutter button. Both are fairly large phones, with a 6.78-inch display on the Pro, and the regular Find X9 only a little smaller at 6.59 inches, and they have IP69 ratings for durability.

The Find X9 Pro’s camera module looks almost identical to teases of the OnePlus 15.

ColorOS 16 brings some smoother animations and other tweaks.

If you want to use the telephoto extender, you’ll have to slap on this official case and lens mount.

But the reward is some impressive extra zoom.

They launch with ColorOS 16, Oppo’s take on Android 16. That brings with it AI upgrades, lock screen customization options inspired by iOS 16, and improvements to Oppo’s clever tech that allows interoperability with both Windows and Mac computers.

The two Find X9 phones were announced for the Chinese market today, where the Find X9 costs ¥4,399 (around $615) and the Pro is ¥5,299 (around $740).The rest of the world won’t have long to wait — an international launch is scheduled for October 28th in Barcelona.
