Over the past few months, we’ve seen Material 3 Expressive find its way to more and more Google products and services. Of course, there’s still plenty more ground to cover, and it looks like the Weather app is getting a welcome update on older Pixel handsets, that not only brings a revamped design, but also new widgets as well.

Something new to play around with

The news comes from the folks at 9to5Google, shedding light on the Pixel Weather app’s changes, with the main difference being in its new widgets. While there are plenty to choose from, you’re going to see the most notable differences with the widgets that have forecasts available.

The news outlet shares that the widgets are now denser, packed with more information, like location, the current “feel”, and also the highs and lows of the days. The widget can display up to six hours of the day at a time, and when fully expanded, can even show off the forecast for up to five days.

That’s pretty exciting, considering that all the information is now available on the home screen and is available without having to go deeper into the app. However, if you choose to dive deeper, there are also changes here as well, with new city cards being larger and easier to read. Each card also shows the high and low temperatures of the day.

Of course, there is a sacrifice being made here to accommodate the new larger-sized cards, which sees the city count drop from 10 to just six total. This might not be a big deal to some, but it is something worth noting. For the most part, you’re getting some excellent changes here, with the widgets providing more information than ever before.

Those using older Pixel devices can now update the Weather app to gain access. And if you were hoping that the weather frog would make an appearance, not this time. But we can still keep hoping, right?
