This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

The latest Nintendo Direct is finally upon us! 2025 has been a busy year for Nintendo, as it launched Nintendo Switch 2 and several critically acclaimed games for it, like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Now, the storied game company is giving us a glimpse at what we can expect over the next year or so.

Starting at 9 a.m. today, September 12, an hour-long Nintendo Direct will reveal a lot of news about upcoming Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 video games. It’s one of the longest Nintendo digital presentations ever, so it’s sure to be a packed show.

While Nintendo has not teased any specific games for this showcase beforehand, there are plenty of already announced games that they can talk about. That includes Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and The Duskbloods. After watching this Nintendo Direct, we should have an ever clear idea of what the next year of Nintendo gaming will look like.

Lots of announcements will be made over the course of this hour-long showcase. To help you keep track of it all, I’m doing this live blog. Over the course of the show, expect this post to update with the latest information on and reaction to whatever is shown off during this Nintendo Direct.

    Nintendo Direct Live Updates

[10:07] Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave closes out the Nintendo Direct

As the final announcement of the Nintendo Direct, a new Fire Emblem game was revealed. It looks to retain the same turn-based strategy gameplay style as recent games in the series, albeit with an all-new story and sections where players can explore locations from a third-person perspective.

The game’s title is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and it will be released sometime next year. This might just be my favorite announcement of the whole Direct.

[10:03] Recent Resident Evil games coming to Nintendo Switch 2

While it had not been previously confirmed, Capcom has announced that Resident Evil: Requiem is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. It showed much of what we saw of the game at Gamescom Opening Night Live running on Switch 2, although it had some unique scenes of its own.

The Switch 2 version of Resident Evil Requiem will launch alongside the other versions of the game on February 27, 2026, as will Switch 2 ports of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village.

[9:59] Dynasty Warriors Origins and more come to Nintendo Switch 2

You guessed it, some more third-party games were shown off during the Nintendo Direct! These include a Danganronpa 2 remake, a Switch 2 port of Dynasty Warriors: Origins (out January 22), and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (out March 13).

A sizzle reel also revealed ports of Two Point Museum, Disgaea 7 Complete, EA Sports FC 26, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, Virtual Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, Lego Voyagers, Little Nightmares 3, and Persona 5 Reload.

[9:55] Pokémon Legends Z-A gets a new trailer and paid DLC

Nintendo showed off a new video for Pokémon Legends Z-A, highlighting some of the different Pokémon that players can fight and capture throughout the game. This game launches on October 16. A Mega Dimension DLC for the game was also teased.

[9:52] A new Pokémon game stars Ditto

A brand-new Pokémon game starring Ditto was revealed. Ditto has the ability to transform into any other Pokémon or even humanoid characters, which the game reflects. It’s a farming sim where players gather Pokémon, gain their abilities, and build homes for them. Think Stardew Valley meets Pokémon. The game is titled Pokémon Pokopia, and it’s out next year on Nintendo Switch 2.

[9:49] DK Island DLC is coming to Donkey Kong Bananza

A DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza was revealed, which lets players explore DK Island and compete in a new challenge called Emerald Rush. It’s out today on Nintendo Switch 2, as is a demo for the base game.

[9:47] Yes, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is out this year

People were starting to doubt whether Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would launch this year or not. Thankfully, the game did show up during the Nintendo Direct with a new trailer confirming a December 4 release date.

    [9:46] Even more third-party announcements!

Nintendo continued its string of showcasing third-party games by highlighting PowerWash Simulator 2 and Suika Game Planet, both out this year.

[9:44] Many third-party games are getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions

Following the surprise announcement of the Virtual Boy, Nintendo continued to showcase third-party games. These included Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake (out early 2025), One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Overcooked 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Stardew Valley – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Human Fall Flat – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

[9:41] Virtual Boy games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online with a dedicated accessory

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s new retro game library is a bit of a surprise. Nintendo is bringing Virtual Boy games to the service. In order to play them in stereoscopic 3D, as they were meant to be played, players will need a special new Virtual Boy accessory, which you put your Switch system into. Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics will begin to roll out on February 17, 2026.

[9:38] Dragon Quest VII is getting a remake

Square Enix is continuing its string of Dragon Quest remakes, as it announced one for Dragon Quest VII today. It’s not an HD-2D game, though, but a full 3D remake. It’s titled Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined and is out on February 5, 2026

[9:36] Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment finally has a release date

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that plays more like a Dynasty Warriors game. This Nintendo Direct revealed split-screen co-op as well as its November 6 release date.

[9:34] Kirby Air Riders is getting some unique amiibo

Nintendo revealed some new Kirby and Waddle Dee amiibo launching on November 20 alongside Kirby Air Riders. The special thing about these amiibo is that the characters can be taken off the vehicles they are on and swapped with each other. A second Direct dedicated to Kirby Air Riders was also teased.

    [9:32] Hades 2 launches on September 25

Supergiant Games used this Nintendo Direct to reveal the console release date for Hades 2, the sequel to its critically acclaimed and highly influential roguelike. We then learned its 1.0 launch will happen on September 25. I adore the first Hades, so I’m really excited to finally play as it’s presumably also leaving early access on PC on that date.

[9:29] Final Fantasy VII Remake and more get Nintendo Switch 2 release dates

Nintendo went back to showcasing more third-party games. These included Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection (out October 30), Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (out January 22, 2026), and Lynked: Banner of the Spark (out today).

[9:26] Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches next Spring

After being teased in a Nintendo Direct back in March, we finally got another look at Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Nintendo gave an overview of some of the wacky things you can do within the game’s life sim sandbox before confirming a release window of Spring 2026.

[9:24] Storm Lancers, Dinkum, and Popucom announced for Nintendo Switch

After all the Mario announcements, Nintendo finally got into some third-party reveals. That included action platformer Storm Lancers (out today), life sim Dinkum (out November 5), and color-based shooter Popucom (out later this year).

[9:20] Yoshi and the Mysterious Book announced for Nintendo Switch 2

To wrap up the Direct’s Mario-related announcements, a new Yoshi game was announced. It appears to be a spiritual successor of sorts to Yoshi’s Story, as it takes place within a storybook, and the aesthetics and game mechanics take advantage of that. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches for Nintendo Switch 2 next spring

[9:17] Mario Tennis Fever and Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition announced

The Super Mario Galaxy re-releases aren’t the only games coming out to celebrate Mario’s 40th anniversary. There’s a new tennis game called Mario Tennis Fever, which adds rackets with unique powers, ranked online play, and an Adventure mode where players control baby versions of the Mario characters. Mario Tennis Fever launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2026.

Meanwhile, 2023’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with some new cooperative and competitive multiplayer challenges in a new location called Bellabel Park. Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in GBellabel Park launches in Spring 2026.

[9:09] Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel are coming to Nintendo Switch

As for the first video game announcement of the Direct, a remaster of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced for Nintendo Switch. They appear to be very straightforward ports of the Wii classics, albeit with widescreen support and a higher resolution. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 launch on October 2 physically. Plus, Mario and Rosalina amiibo will release next year.

[9:04] The Nintendo Direct begins with a celebration of Mario’s 40th anniversary

The September 2025 Nintendo Direct kicked off with a video highlighting a lot of concept art from the development of classic Mario games. Shigeru Miyamoto then appeared to call out the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. The Nintendo Museum now features a gallery featuring concept art and a special ticket to celebrate the anniversary, while a light display based on it will be added in December 2025.

Miyamoto also highlighted Universal’s Nintendo theme parks and Nintendo’s sponsorship of the Kyoto Marathon in 2026. Finally, he revealed the first teaser for the next Super Mario Bros. animated film, which is officially titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

[8:49] The latest Nintendo Direct is about to begin!

We’re just about ten minutes away from the latest Nintendo Direct! Keep an eye on this post, and I’ll keep you updated on everything that Nintendo and other video game companies reveal over the course of this showcase. What are you hoping to see? I’d personally love for a new Fire Emblem or Mario baseball game to be announced.
