The Google Pixel Watch 4 is one of Google’s worst-kept secrets, as leaks from official and unofficial sources have revealed practically everything we need to know about the smartwatch. However, as surprising as this may sound, there are still aspects of the Pixel Watch 4 that are unknown to us, such as the placement of the charging pins. A leak has now shed light on this attribute as well.
A Reddit post has uncovered what appear to be slides of marketing materials meant for retailers, detailing some of the “key improvements” present in the Pixel Watch 4, including the repositioned charging pins. Most of the information we find here is already in the public domain, including the 25% boost to charging speeds with the “Quick Charge Dock,” as well as a battery life of 30 hours for the 41mm model, and 40 hours for the 45mm Pixel Watch 4 (via 9to5Google).
As you can see above, there are a total of two POGO charging pins on the left-hand side of the smartwatch, positioned on either end of the speaker grill. The accompanying text states that the smartwatch offers “significant technological advancements” over previous models, with features such as “enhanced visual clarity and responsiveness” being highlighted. What also caught our attention is the presence of a “Gen 3 sensor hub for precise activity monitoring.”
The Pixel Watch 4 charger will support moisture detection
More leaked slides highlighting the Pixel Watch 4’s features
Notably, the Pixel Watch 4’s integration with Gemini is mentioned in these retailer-specific marketing materials, as is its updated charging mechanism. Among the list of features mentioned under the new charger’s capabilities is “moisture detection,” which will undoubtedly be spoken about in great detail during the Pixel Watch 4 launch event. Users are also in for a “better UI when charging,” likely a reference to its newfound ability to double as a bedside clock.
We’ve known for a while now that the Pixel Watch 4 will utilize a different charging setup. While the lack of charging pins on the back initially led to speculation that Google might switch to wireless charging for the new smartwatch, that notion was quickly refuted by newer leaks that revealed the charging pins to be positioned on the left edge of the Pixel Watch 4.
The new charging system has received mixed opinions so far, though its potential as a bedside clock can’t be denied. Google will debut the Pixel Watch 4 along with the lineup of Pixel 10 smartphones and the Pixel Buds 2a during its Made by Google event on August 20.
