Yes, The Outer Worlds 2 will be available to play through Xbox Game Pass at launch on both Xbox and PC. Specifically, it will be on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass day one, with Xbox Game Pass Premium availability coming within one year after launch.
The Outer Worlds 2 is on Xbox Game Pass!
2025 has been a big year for Microsoft’s Xbox gaming division, with Xbox Game Studios publishing several high-profile exclusives like DOOM: The Dark Ages, Avowed, and Grounded 2. On top of that, Xbox Game Pass had an incredibly strong spring/summer quarter, offering subscribers access to everything from all the aforementioned titles to breakout hits like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Two major Xbox releases this year, Avowed and Grounded 2, have come from Obsidian Entertainment. What looks to be its biggest RPG of 2025, The Outer Worlds 2, will be the developer’s third title, and it’s coming to Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5.
Since then, hands-on previews have only served to further that excitement, including one from my colleague Samuel Tolbert in which he got to experience the thrill of The Outer Worlds 2’s combat, and another from Zachary Boddy that gave them a taste of the game’s narrative and varied choice-based progression paths.
It’s hardly a surprise, then, that folks excited by what they saw and positive pre-release impressions are wondering if The Outer Worlds 2 will be available to play through Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft’s premier gaming service allows its members to freely play hundreds of titles both old and new in exchange for a monthly fee.
For those hopeful fans, there’s good news: since it’s a game published by Xbox Game Studios, The Outer Worlds 2 is a first-party Xbox release, and will therefore be on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Something important to note, however, is that it will only be available through two tiers at launch.
These include the $29.99/month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (Xbox, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming) and the PC-only $16.49/month PC Game Pass. Notably, it will also come to the $14.99/month Xbox Game Pass Premium within 12 months after the game releases.
The only Game Pass subscribers that will miss out on The Outer Worlds 2 are members of the Xbox Game Pass Essential tier, which only features a very small library of titles and is largely intended for people who just want online multiplayer access on their Xbox console.
How else can you play The Outer Worlds 2?
Using Xbox Game Pass to play The Outer Worlds 2 is undeniably an extremely attractive option. However, it’s not the only way you’ll be able to jump into Obsidian’s highly anticipated RPG when it comes out, so don’t feel like you have to subscribe to the service if you don’t want to.
Of course, you can also simply buy a full copy of the game, which will likely be your best bet if you want to be able to replay the title some day after you finish it the first time. Subscribing to Game Pass across multiple months just for access to the RPG will actually end up being more expensive than simply purchasing it in the long run.
The Standard Edition of The Outer Worlds 2 is $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5, with the Premium Edition that gives you four days of Early Access and some other exclusive goodies costing $99.99.
However, you can get the Xbox version (also playable on PC with Xbox Play Anywhere) for just $55.79 at Loaded (formerly CDKeys) thanks to a nice preorder deal. The Premium Edition is also just $78.89 at Loaded, too, so you can save over $20 if you want the snazziest version of the game there is.
