Incogni and OneRep are two of the best-known data removal services that help you stay private online. They scour data broker sites for your personal information and send automated or manually drafted requests to have the information removed.
Incogni was launched in 2022 by Surfshark, a leading virtual private network (VPN) app. It remains owned by Surfshark, which merged with another VPN company, Nord Security, in 2022. Though under the Nord Security umbrella, Incogni maintains a distinct brand and is run separately.
Broker coverage
Incogni provides automated removal requests for 420+ data broker sites, including some of the biggest ones. It can seamlessly send automated requests to these sites, and such requests are processed quickly. Incogni can also send manual data deletion requests to over 1,000 sites, though these requests take longer to process than automated ones.
However, there’s a caveat when sending requests with Incogni. Users subscribed to the Standard plan can send only automated data removal requests. Custom requests are available to users on the more expensive Unlimited plan.
OneRep processes data removal requests for over 230 data broker and people-finder sites. After entering your name and other personal information, it’ll run a deep scan across these broker sites to find where your information is listed. OneRep uses its proprietary True Scan technology to find information noticeably faster than many other data removal services. After the initial scan, you can also set scheduled scans for OneRep to keep scouring the web for your data and sending removal requests (Incogni offers a similar feature).
Notably, OneRep offers manual removal requests for users subscribed to the Pro plan. It doesn’t have a specific number of sites where manual requests are supported– Rather, it could be any site, and OneRep’s team will draft a formal request to try to get the data removed.
Incogni has broader broker coverage than OneRep, particularly for manual removals. However, OneRep is notable for its faster scans that are usually completed within several hours, whereas a full Incogni scan can take up to 48 hours.
Data insights
With Incogni, users have access to a detailed dashboard to monitor their requests. On this dashboard, I could monitor every request initiated by Incogni on my behalf, including those that were pending or successful. The process began with providing my personal information for Incogni to scan, and the scan took roughly 48 hours to complete. After the initial scan, I authorized Incogni to send removal requests on my behalf, and then I could monitor the status of each request from my dashboard.
Incogni sent email alerts when the initial scan was complete, each time a request was sent, and whenever a request was successfully processed. Although the dashboard showed the same information, these email alerts meant I didn’t have to visit the dashboard every time to monitor my removal requests.
OneRep stood out to me with its data insights. It provided a detailed dashboard where I could easily keep tabs on every request, and I also received email alerts whenever requests were sent and finally processed.
With Incogni, I observed a few cases where data was reported as “removed” but still present on the data broker site —this happened because the data broker reported to Incogni’s staff that the request had been processed, but it had actually not been finalized (the data was finally removed later). In contrast, OneRep’s reports felt more reliable, with data only reported as “removed” on the dashboard when it was actually deleted from the data broker’s database.
Extra features
Incogni and OneRep don’t offer many additional features beyond personal data scanning and removal. They aren’t like some data removal sites that also offer a VPN service, dark web scanning, and other bonus features.
Yet, I can point out that Incogni and OneRep don’t offer just one-time data scanning and removal. You can turn on recurring scans so that they automatically scan your data and send removal requests on your behalf. With recurring scans, Incogni or OneRep becomes a digital companion that helps keep you safe online.
Ease of use
Incogni and OneRep are user-friendly tools in their own right. With Incogni, you’ll get a dashboard with minimal clutter and simple visual elements that make navigation easy. Your main dashboard shows an interactive timeline of the requests Incogni has sent on your behalf, including the status of each request (Sent, In progress, or completed). Incogni also displays a “time saved” metric denoting how much time you would have lost pursuing these requests yourself.
With OneRep, you’ll have an intuitive dashboard whose main page displays the status of your requests. On this main page, you’ll easily know when a request has been sent and has been processed or is pending.
In my opinion, OneRep’s dashboard felt more detailed than Incogni’s, even though they offer similar statistics. The key difference is that Incogni offers a more automated, hands-off user experience, while OneRep offers a hands-on experience that requires more manual input to control your requests.
Customer support
Incogni provides generous support resources, both self-help and external. Its official support page contains detailed user guides and manuals that I found helpful for resolving mundane issues. When I needed external help, Incogni’s support team was always an email, live chat, or telephone call away. However, note that telephone support is available only to users subscribed to the Unlimited plan.
OneRep also provides abundant self-help resources, with its official Support Center offering comprehensive user guides that came in handy for navigating problems. When self-help resources weren’t sufficient, I quickly contacted OneRep’s support team via email or telephone. Notably, OneRep’s telephone support is open to all paid subscribers.
Plans and pricing
Incogni users can choose from one of four pricing plans: Standard, Unlimited, Family, and Family Unlimited. Each plan has a monthly or annual subscription, with an annual payment providing a 50% discount compared to paying month to month.
The Standard plan costs $16 monthly, while the annual option costs $96 (a 50% reduction compared to paying $16 for 12 months, or $192). The Unlimited plan costs $30 per month, but an annual subscription reduces the price to $180. The Unlimited plan allows both automated and manual removal requests, unlike the Standard plan, which supports only automated requests.
The Family plan offers the same features as the Standard plan, but for up to 5 users covered under the same subscription. It costs $32 per month, or $192 for an annual subscription. The Family Unlimited plan offers the same features as Incogni’s Unlimited plan, but for up to 5 members; it’ll run you $46 per month, or $276 if you pay annually. Incogni doesn’t offer a free trial, but it does provide a 30-day money-back guarantee.
OneRep has a pricing system similar to Incogni. It offers four pricing plans: Individual, Family, Individual Pro, and Family Pro. The key difference is that the Pro variants allow manual removal requests, while the Individual and Family plans support only automated requests.
The Individual plan costs $15 per month, but is discounted to $100 for an annual subscription. The Family plan, covering up to 6 users, costs $28 per month but is discounted to $180 annually. The Individual Pro subscription costs $30 per month or $192 annually, and the Family Pro plan costs $56 monthly or a discounted $360 annually.
Given their respective features, Incogni and OneRep offer a good bang for your buck. There’s not much difference between the two platforms in terms of pricing.
Which is best?
I wouldn’t say Incogni or OneRep is absolutely better than the other, even though my preference lies towards Incogni. Incogni’s wider broker coverage and user-friendly, hands-off experience are the main factors contributing to this preference. After providing my personal data, Incogni took over, constantly checking data broker sites for it and sending automated deletion requests on any site where it was found.
OneRep is user-friendly, but I consider it better for manual removal requests for specific sites, not automated ones. Its broker coverage also isn’t as wide as Incogni’s– it’s more geared towards U.S.-based data broker platforms than foreign ones. All in, I’ll recommend Incogni to anyone seeking a reliable data removal platform, but OneRep also works.
