I ditched my PC speakers for a soundbar and never looked back

Recently, I swapped out my 2.0 speaker system for a soundbar to go with my laptop and desktop PC. It was a decision I didn’t take lightly because my speakers had served me well. As it turns out, it was a great decision that I don’t regret. Here’s why.

My speakers were bulkier than my Bluedee soundbar, which is sleek and compact. The speakers took up far too much space on my desk, meaning that I didn’t have much room for anything else. Now I have room for a second laptop as well as my notepad and coffee cup, so it’s been a space saving solution for me.

Then there’s the issue of the audio quality. Compared to my old speakers, the soundbar delivers better sound. Soundbars work by housing multiple speakers in one unit. Thanks to this multi-speaker configuration, the soundbar provides me with a richer, fuller audio experience. That’s true even though I can’t adjust the direction of the sound as precisely as I could with my previous speakers.

The simple wiring takes less than a minute to set up, too. I just plug in my USB-C cable, and the soundbar is ready to go on my laptop. No fiddly connections with secondary satellites or extra cables required.

What’s more, my soundbar has Bluetooth and a 3,800mAh battery, which means I can use it unplugged like a portable Bluetooth speaker. My old speakers always needed to be plugged in to a power supply to work.

Speakers tend to be more PC-oriented, fitting on either side of my desktop or laptop, but I’d always had a problem adapting them to my TV or console – they were just too fiddly. But my soundbar is a more versatile device, going equally well next to my TV or game console and providing the kind of audio that fills the room.

I’ve also benefited from my soundbar’s built-in technologies. It’s got surround sound, which makes watching movies a whole lot more enjoyable.

That’s not to say soundbars are the perfect solutions for everyone. I was only upgrading from a 2.0 speaker system–I didn’t have a subwoofer. The soundbar’s bass is just passable.

Audiophiles that want true surround sound may want to opt for a fully-fledged 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system for a rich, immersive audio experience. But if you’re currently using a budget speaker system like I was and want to upgrade for a better sound experience along with the convenience of a clutter-free desk, then a budget soundbar is a great option.
