Google’s Find Hub can finally speak distance in your language

Google’s Find Hub isn’t one of those Google apps with 10 billion downloads on the Google Play Store, but it’s certainly one of the best that you can rely on to track lost Android phones and accessories. The app has recently snagged an update on the Google Play Store, taking the version to 3.1.458 and adding a useful new feature.

It looks like this is a slow rollout, as the latest version isn’t live on our devices at the time of writing. However, courtesy of folks over at 9to5Google, who spotted the update first, we have a clear idea about what new features it offers.

Google’s Find Hub finally feels a little more like the way you find things

After installing Google’s Find Hub version 3.1.458, you’ll notice a new menu called “Distance units” on the app’s Settings page. If you tap on it, you’ll see several options to select, including Use default, Metric, US, and UK.

In most cases, the default option is the best, because it’s the same as your system settings. But for those who move from one region to another, the ability to choose the distance unit they’re comfortable with will come in handy.

For example, someone from the US who recently moved to Europe will have their default system changed to metric, which is something people in the US aren’t familiar with. People in the US understand distance better in inches and feet than in meters and centimeters.

If that’s you, you no longer have to struggle with new distance units. Go to the Settings page by tapping the profile icon in the Find Hub app, and then select the US option from the “Distance units” menu. It’s useful specifically in scenarios where you need precision tracking to accurately track UWB-enabled trackers and phones.

Google has also updated the Compatible devices list on the Find Hub page, highlighting all the trackers and headphones that recently gained support for Find Hub. As spotted by 9to5Google, some of the new trackers and headphones that have been added to the Compatible devices list include models from Chipolo, Pebblebee, MiLi, Motorola, and Rolling Square.

You can easily find all the compatible devices by applying filters like Tracking Tags, Headphones and Speakers, and Embedded Tracking. You can find the list of all compatible devices on Google’s official Find Hub page.
