Google will make Android’s Quick Share work with iPhones

Google and Samsung launched the unified Quick Share on Android last year, and now it seems like the search giant is busy making it compatible with iPhones… somehow.

A teardown of the latest Google Play Services beta app has revealed this fact, actually confirming an initial report from almost a year ago. Clearly then, it’s taking some time, but it’s still coming. And when the functionality does arrive, here’s a screen you’ll see on your Android smartphone when attempting to share something with an iPhone while not being signed into your Google account:

So, interestingly, it seems like you’ll need to be signed in to use Quick Share to send something from an Android phone to an iPhone, even if the same requirement doesn’t exist if you Quick Share to another Android device.

It’s unclear why the discrepancy exists, perhaps you’ll need to use a Google account on the iPhone in order for Quick Share to work (presumably through the Google app)? This is all speculation at this point, however. What’s important to note is that work is still being done on this feature, and since it’s now part-integrated into the latest Google Play Services beta app, we might be approaching its public release.
