Understanding the basics of UWB technology
UWB is a wireless protocol that gives your phone spatial awareness. Your phone sends short, low-power radio pulses across various frequencies.
When the pulses hit another UWB device, such as a smart tag, that device sends a return pulse.
The Pixel then measures the round-trip flight time of these signals to the nanoseconds.
It helps to compare it to wireless tech you already know. If Bluetooth can tell you your device is nearby, UWB can tell it’s two meters away, on your left, next to the sofa.
Most wireless tech relies on signal strength, but UWB works differently.
Signal strength can be tricked by hackers who amplify a signal.
However, since light speed is constant and added relays create detectable timing errors, it’s difficult to fake and spoof a UWB connection.
