Google makes it easier to transfer data from your old phone to a new Pixel

The biggest hurdle after buying a new phone is the dreaded task of transferring all your data. While this used to be a laborious process filled with tons of stress, things have gotten considerably better over time, with plenty of apps and tools available to make the transition that much smoother.

Of course, there’s always room for improvement, which is where Google’s new Head Start program comes into play. Those that preordered a Pixel 10 have most likely been introduced to it, but if you haven’t taken a look yet, a new report from 9to5Google sheds light on the tool and how it works to get your Pixel 10 setup before it even arrives.

A good way to get started

For the most part, there’s nothing really too clever here, with Google just outlining all the ways you can sync your data to the cloud and have the data ready for when your new Pixel arrives. However, it does make it quite simple to understand with easy-to-follow instructions, which is important if someone is experiencing all of this for the first time.

In addition to using Google Photos to back up photos and videos, the Head Start program also ropes in Password Manager to save all your important login details for apps and services. The best part about all of this is that the data gets sent to the cloud, and is ready to pop up on your Pixel phone once you get it into your hands.

Of course, not all data can be seamlessly synced through the cloud, and that’s where a trusty USB-C to USB-C cable will come in. When you finally get your new Pixel phone, in order to get the last bit of information off your phone like your contacts, messages, and other information, you’ll need to connect your old phone to the new one.

For the most part, Google offers a pretty good way to get things done if you’re not so sure how to go about doing it. And since this process works with both Android phones and iPhones, it’s a fantastic way to start your new journey with the Pixel 10. Of course, we recommend keeping that old phone handy just in case you see something missing after you get everything set up.

You’ll also want to double-check your cloud information as well, because while backing up information to the cloud is reliable, sometimes it might not be perfect for whatever reason. If you want to give this a try, you can take a look at the Head Start website. Otherwise, you should be able to get the instructions with your purchase order if it’s coming from the Google Store.
