Google rolled out v3.37 of the Google Home app in late July, adding support for camera tile previews. It also fixed text overlap issues and addressed some stability concerns. Now, weeks later, it has published details of another update that it seeded in early August. And while the new build doesn’t add any flashy new features, it resolves two major camera-related issues.
Google’s official release notes for Google Home v3.38 state that the build improves the live camera playback. Thanks to under-the-hood tweaks, the app will now do a better job of accurately reporting whether your Nest or Home cameras are online or offline (via Android Authority). The changes should also help improve the live-streaming performance.
Additionally, the company boasts of enhanced camera performance, as it has reduced the first frame latency and improved the streaming reliability for cameras “through better signaling.” These enhancements will build well on top of the camera tile-related changes that Google made with the late July Google Home update to deliver a better experience.
Given that the new build went live on August 4, 2025, it should already be widely available on the Play Store.
While Google rolled out redesigned media controls with Google Home v3.37 to some users, the latest release notes make no mention of them. It seems the company will continue testing the updated controls with selected users for the foreseeable future.
Google updates the Home app every couple of weeks. So, the next update should land in the third week of August, hopefully containing more visual changes and important bug fixes. The last big updates to Google Home arrived in June, making it easier to create smarter, more precise automations.
It also rolled out detailed permission controls to the stable channel, giving you more flexibility over how much access your family members can have over your smart home devices.
Google Home and Nest could use some fixing too
While it’s good to see Google improving the Google Home app, it should also show some love to its Home and Nest devices. Google Assistant on Google Home is essentially broken right now, with multiple reports in recent weeks suggesting it even fails to understand and trigger basic commands.
Google has teased that a smarter Google Home experience is on the horizon, and it will share more details about it this fall.
