The vast video game catalog of PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra is getting a little bit bigger on August 19. Each month, this subscription service adds several entertaining games for people to check out.
The catalog offers a solid mix of PS4 and PS5 games to PS Plus Extra subscribers, while PS Plus Premium members get access to PS1, PS2, and PlayStation VR2 game libraries as well.
This month, we’re getting a healthy mix of PS1, PS4, and PS2 games.
Marvel’s Spider-Man, Insomniac Games’ critically acclaimed superhero game, is the highest-profile game of the bunch. Although fans of retro games will be happy to hear the original versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 are also coming to the service.
Overall, 11 games are coming to PS Plus Premium and Extra’s game catalog on August 19. Having that many titles to pick from may be giving you choice paralysis, but I’m here to help.
I’ve ranked all of August 2025’s new PS Plus Premium and Extra games from worst to best, which should help give you a better idea of what to play.

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & The Secret Key
Available on PS4 and PS5
Atelier is a pretty massive franchise of RPGs from Japanese game developer Gust. Released in 2023, Atelier Ryza 3 is one of the series’ more recent entries, and the first to include larger, more open-world-like areas.
If you enjoy JRPGs or have a history with the Atelier series, you may have a good time with Atelier Ryza 3.
That said, you may feel a bit out of your depth if you immediately try diving into this adventure, which makes it the least appealing of this month’s PS Plus games.

Harold Halibut
Available on PS5
Harold Halibut is a very impressive indie game, as Slow Bros spent over a decade creating a stop-motion claymation adventure game.
It follows the titular character, who lives in a spaceship stuck at the bottom of the ocean on an alien planet. He discovers an alien hiding on the ship, and a wacky adventure unfolds from there.
From a gameplay perspective, Harold Halbiut isn’t that engaging, and adventure games like it tend to play better on PC than on consoles.
Still, it’s an outstanding artistic achievement that fans of stop-motion should check out if they have the time this month.

Earth Defense Force 6
Available on PS4 and PS5
Before Helldivers 2, there was Earth Defense Force. This long-running series of action games sees players fight hordes of insect-like aliens with increasingly ridiculous and destructive weapons.
The catch is that all Earth Defense Force games are pretty janky, so this definitely isn’t as polished an experience as Helldivers 2.
When it specifically comes to Earth Defense Force 6, this game doesn’t really shake up the core formula much, though it’s touted as having the most missions out of any game in the series.
If you enjoy co-op games that are dumb fun, and you have a lot of friends subscribed to PS Plus Extra or Premium, Earth Defense Force 6 will make for an enjoyable game night.

Coral Island
Available on PS4 and PS5
There are countless farming sims out there now that were inspired by Stardew Valley.
Coral Island is one of the better ones. This farming sim is island-themed, as players help restore the titular locale by slowly building up a farm.
It has everything you’d expect from a farming sim, from managing crops to raising livestock to romancing the inhabitants of Coral Island.
While it’s not exactly the most original game being added to PS Plus this month, it’s an easy one to sink a lot of play time into.

Unicorn Overlord
Available on PS4 and PS5
Vanillaware is a Japanese game developer with a cult following, known for making games with absolutely beautiful art.
Unicorn Overlord is the studio’s stab at making a Fire Emblem-like strategy RPG, albeit with real-time combat.
If you’re getting restless waiting for the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics remaster or the first Fire Emblem game for Nintendo Switch 2, then Unicorn Overlord is a good salve.
And if you like this one, you should check out other Vanillaware games like 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.

Mortal Kombat 1
Available on PS5
Mortal Kombat is another long-running series that needs little introduction, as it’s a fighting game best known for its brutal combat that lets players kill their opponents at the end of a match with bloody fatalities.
Mortal Kombat 1 is the twelfth game in the series, but it serves as a multiversal soft reboot for the franchise.
In Mortal Kombat 1, Liu Kang has created a new timeline with reimagined versions of lots of classic Mortal Kombat characters. That makes it a decent entry point to this fighting game franchise.
While it’s a bummer the Ultimate Edition of the game with all the DLC characters isn’t the version coming to PS Plus, Mortal Kombat 1 is worth your time if you enjoy a good fighting game.

Indika
Available on PS5
Horror game Indika flew under the radar when it launched last May, and that’s a shame.
It’s one of the subversive and chilling horror games I’ve played in some time, frequently messing around with how players interact with video games as a medium.
It follows a troubled nun who hears the voice of the devil in her head and is swept up on an adventure to travel to a temple with an escaped prisoner.
Indika is a game that deals with religious themes, so it may not be for everyone. But if its premise and trailer look interesting to you, I highly recommend giving Indika a shot.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Available to PS Plus Premium subscribers on PS4 and PS5
While a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis has been available on PS4 since 2020, it’s great that PS Plus Premium subscribers finally have an easy way to play the original version of the game on PS4 or PS5.
It’s an emulated version of the 1999 PS1 game that players can rewind or create a save state in at any time they want.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis doesn’t get quite as much love as the other mainline games in this iconic horror franchise, but it is still a great game.
It’s pivotal to the story of Raccoon City, which will be continued in next year’s Resident Evil: Requiem, and few games can match the terror you feel when the grotesque Nemesis is chasing you.

Resident Evil 2
Available to PS Plus Premium subscribers on PS4 and PS5
Resident Evil 2 is considered one of the best horror games of all time, so it’s a no-brainer to recommend you go check this game out if you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium.
It’s the game that introduced Leon Kennedy and codified what makes a good Resident Evil game.
If you’ve only ever played the 2019 remake, the original’s fixed cameras and tank-like controls might take some getting used to.
Still, this is one of those games that’s worth experiencing at least once, so you can better understand its impact on the video game industry as a whole.

Marvel’s Spider-Man
Different versions of the game are available on PS4 and PS5
Understandably, the game most subscribers will be drawn to this month is Marvel’s Spider-Man.
It’s as spectacular as the reputation that precedes it, thanks to its absolutely exhilarating, physics-based web-swinging gameplay and emotional story that stands as one of the best ever told with Spider-Man.
If you’re a fan of the character and somehow haven’t played this before, do so on PS Plus. I will point out that the version of the game you can download differs depending on whether you’re playing on PS4 or PS5.
PS4 players will have to settle for the Game of the Year Edition, which is the original version of the game bundled with all its DLC.
PS5 players get Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which contains all the same content, but a redesigned Peter Parker and PS5-enabled enhancements to the resolution, frame rate, loading, audio, and controls.
