Elden Ring: Nightreign was a surprise hit when it released earlier in the year. Developer FromSoftware took the Elden Ring formula of tough combat in a dark fantasy world and transmuted it into a fast-paced online multiplayer adventure in rogue-like repeatable matches. Next month, the game will get its first official DLC, which was first revealed on Tuesday’s State of Play and will be available Dec. 4.
Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows is the upcoming DLC for the online spinoff game that will add more playable character classes, bosses and content to the game. This update arrives at the perfect time for players who’ve been grinding match after match and calling for something new.
What’s new in The Forsaken Hollows DLC?
The biggest addition coming in the DLC is the two new Nightfarer classes to play as. The first, the Scholar, is described as “an academic who walks the Lands Between.” He’s listed as having “impressive arcane levels,” which means he should be able to deal heavy bleed damage to enemies, as arcane is the primary stat to trigger that effect in the game. The Scholar also has “incredible advantages through battlefield observation,” which likely refers to a special ability, although it’s unclear what that could be.
The second Nightfarer is the Undertaker, who is referred to as “an abbess who was mandated to slay the Nightlord.” Her description says she boasts impressive strength and faith, which gives the impression she will be able to pummel enemies as well as heal teammates.
There are also new bosses added in The Forsaken Hollow. One is the Dreglord, who will be one of the two new end-of-night final bosses. There are also an unannounced number of new field bosses, which could feature a return of one of Dark Souls franchise’s most famous characters. Seen at the very end of the trailer is Atorias, a tragic hero turned deadly boss who made an appearance in the DLC for the original Dark Souls.
Also in the DLC is a new Shifting Earth pattern, which will change the condition of the map should it strike during a play session, and more points of interest to explore. Players should also expect a slew of balance changes for the current roster of characters.
