The rumors were true, OpenAI has a web browser, and it’s called Atlas. As you might expect, it integrates ChatGPT front and center with instant access to the AI chatbot at your disposal without having to jump between apps or browser tabs.

The browser is Chromium-based and currently exclusive to macOS. It supports data syncing from other browsers and OpenAI confirmed plans to release Windows, iOS, and Android versions.

Atlas builds on top of ChatGPT Search with the ability to surf the web and perform searches on behalf of the user. You can ask context-specific questions on any website and Atlas will provide answers, summaries and even complete tasks on its own.

Atlas features a memory function, which allows it to reference previous ChatGPT conversations so you can pick up where you’ve left off before. You can even ask Atlas to retrieve files or tab groups you had open before. You also get a ChatGPT sidebar directly integrated into the browser so you can have your usual ChatGPT experience.

Atlas also integrates ChatGPT Agent functionality so it can accomplish tasks on your behalf. Agent mode will be exclusive to ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business users for now.

OpenAI also added strategic safeguards to Atlas like not being able to download files, run extensions or code and it cannot connect with other apps on your computer.
