Apple unveiled the M5-powered iPad Pro earlier this month, and now the folks over at iFixit have disassembled one in order to take a look at its insides and ascertain how repairable it actually is. It’s the 13″ model, by the way, which is just 5.1mm thick.
That thinness in itself makes repairs harder, since every component needs to be insanely tightly packed, with the screen mounted flush against the internals. And the only way to get in is through the screen, unfortunately.
Obviously, taking the screen off without cracking it isn’t easy to do, but at least Apple is providing repair manuals and parts. Once you get the screen out, things become easier.
To remove the battery there are ten pull tabs to be pulled. The USB-C port is easily accessible and removable, the logic board requires a lot of screws to be removed, and then it’s down to the cameras. Most of the screws inside are of the JIS type, but not all.
In the end, the 13″ iPad Pro (2025) gets a 5 out of 10 repairability score, where 0 would be the worst and 10 would be the best. The main issue is the battery is only accessible after removing the screen, and that comes at the risk of damaging the screen. Once you’ve removed the screen, everything else is pretty easy to replace.
