Google is launching Gemini 3. The latest suite of AI models is of course its best yet, and comes to replace Gemini 2.5, which was introduced in May at Google I/O.

Gemini 3 is rolling out in AI Mode in Google Search (for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers), and also in the Gemini app for everyone. Google CEO Sundar Pichai says it’s “much better at figuring out the context and intent behind your request, so you get what you need with less prompting”.

Google says Gemini 3 is “the best model in the world for multimodal understanding”, delivering “richer visualizations and deeper interactivity”. Gemini 3’s release starts with Gemini 3 Pro, “in preview”. It will be followed by Gemini 3 Deep Think, which is currently being tested by “safety testers”. Once they’re done with it, it will be available to Google AI Ultra subscribers.

Gemini 3 Pro “significantly outperforms” Gemini 2.5 Pro on every major AI benchmark. It “brings a new level of depth and nuance to every interaction”, with responses that are “smart, concise, and direct, trading cliché and flattery for genuine insight — telling you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear”, according to Google. Gemini 3 Deep Think outperforms Gemini 3 Pro in benchmarks, but of course the tradeoff is that it takes longer to come up with its responses.

Gemini 3 is better at helping you learn anything, since it was built from the start to “seamlessly synthesize information about any topic across multiple modalities, including text, images, video, audio, and code”.

Google says Gemini 3 is its most secure model yet, whatever that means, and that it’s “undergone the most comprehensive set of safety evaluations of any Google AI model to date”. It shows “reduced sycophancy, increased resistance to prompt injections and improved protection against misuse via cyberattacks”.
