Slowly but steadily, Google has integrated Gemini into almost all its products and services. In May this year, Google confirmed that its AI-powered assistant will even make its way to Android Auto later this year. Almost six months after the announcement, Google seems to have started a limited rollout of Gemini in Android Auto.

9to5Google spotted reports of several Android Auto users gaining access to Gemini on Android Auto 15.6 or 15.7. The rollout appears to be server-side and isn’t tied to a specific phone or Android Auto version. However, it seems only users on the Android Auto beta channel are getting access to Gemini in their cars.

Such users are also seeing additional Gemini-related settings in Android Auto, including the option to share precise location with the AI assistant.

Once fully released, Gemini will replace Google Assistant on Android Auto. Given its improved natural language understanding and processing, it should provide a much better experience — like it does on other devices. Plus, Gemini can take action across apps connected through extensions, such as Google Maps, Home, and Keep.

Like Assistant, it can also send messages, control music playback, and do much more.

Google even highlighted previously that Gemini in Android Auto can automatically send translated messages. And it can translate incoming texts seamlessly, too.

Talk to Gemini Live through Android Auto

Gemini Live is also available as part of Gemini’s expansion on Android Auto. As Google previously detailed, you can use the “let’s talk” activation phrase to trigger Live and then talk to the AI assistant naturally. If you only want to trigger Gemini, the older “Hey Google” hotword still works.

Unlike Gemini on phones and speakers, the assistant won’t be as conversational on Android Auto. Instead, it will keep its responses short and crisp, helping you focus on driving.

As of now, given the sporadic reports from Android Auto users, it’s clear that Google has only rolled out Gemini to a limited number of people. Depending on the early feedback, the rollout should expand to more users in the coming weeks.
