Rabbit CEO teases follow-up device, not that anyone’s asking

We’ve seen a lot of great devices pop up over the past few years, but there have also been some tremendous flops as well. But if we needed to highlight some standouts, it would be the Humane Pin and the Rabbit R1. The former didn’t really move the needle much, and seemed more like an elaborate live showcase so that it could eventually be bought up by a big company.

And well, while the Rabbit R1 did eventually find its way to retail, it didn’t really deliver on the vision or manage to carve out its own lane. Of course, the device wasn’t all that expensive, but for good reason, as people would eventually find out that it could easily replicate the experience on any current phone in their pocket.

So, after having a bit of a moment, the device was pretty much forgotten about, and we haven’t seen any headlines about it in 2025. But it looks like the brand is exploring a possible follow-up device, which could arrive sometime in 2026. The only question we have for Rabbit is, who’s asking for this?

But in all seriousness, it doesn’t hurt to have a company try again as many times as it wants in order to really deliver on its vision. Speaking with Tom’s Hardware, Rabbit CEO Jesse Lyu talks about how there’s a new device in the works, and that it will eventually release as a “three-in-one device.” (via Android Authority)

We’ll believe it when we see it

While nothing’s set in stone, the brand is exploring new ideas and different form factors for its next device. Perhaps one of the more eye-opening moments in the interview is that Lyu admits that carrying around two devices isn’t ideal, and also sheds light that most people aren’t ready to trust AI on their primary devices with things like banking.

Because of the latter point, Lyu believes that Rabbit has at least one device that it can pump about before folks get comfortable with AI on their phones, which will perhaps make devices like the Rabbit unnecessary. The good news is that if the brand does come out with a new product, it will look and feel quite different from what’s out today.

Which is a good thing considering that the design was one of the highlights of the Rabbit R1. It’s also important to note that Rabbit won’t be coming out with a pair of glasses or a pendant, which have been some of the more talked about wearable products in 2025. Despite looking towards the future, the brand still supports the R1, and it even released new software recently with rabbitOS 2.

Naturally, we’ll have to wait and see what the brand can come up with and if it will be compelling. With its first release, it had the benefit of the doubt. But since it was such a big disappointment, Rabbit has a huge mountain to climb if it wants to succeed with something new.
