With Halo: Campaign Evolved being revealed this past week — a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved — we figured now’s the perfect time to put your skills to the test and see just how much you remember about where it all began.

    More quizzes!

The list of Windows Central quizzes continues to grow. You might know your stuff when it comes to Call of Duty: Black Ops, but how will you fare against our other tests?

Back in 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved redefined what console shooters could be. From the first time we land on our first Halo ring to that unforgettable warthog run, it set the standard for storytelling, sandbox design, and multiplayer fun that countless games still chase today.

But Halo didn’t stop there. Halo 2 raised the bar with Xbox Live multiplayer and a story that left players wanting more, while Halo 3 gave us one of the most satisfying conclusions in gaming history — a true “finish the fight” moment that defined a generation of Xbox fans.

    You may like

To celebrate the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved, this quiz focuses primarily on the original Halo: Combat Evolved while throwing in a few questions from Halo 2 and Halo 3 for good measure. From iconic missions and quotes to the more obscure details only a true fan would remember, let’s see how well you really know the trilogy that started it all.

If you made it to the end, nice work! This quiz was never meant to be easy.

With Halo: Campaign Evolved releasing next year, it felt like the right time to revisit where it all started while mixing in a few questions for Halo 2 and Halo 3 along the way. Those games built on everything Combat Evolved introduced, pushed the series forward in their own way, and helped shape Halo into the franchise many of us still love and enjoy to this day.

I wanted the quiz to start out simple and get progressively tougher, ending with a few questions designed for the real die-hards who know their Blam! from their Blaam!. That last question might have been a bit too tricky, and only for those real lore nerds like me out there who love the books and dive deep into the extended lore.

All the latest news, reviews, and guides for Windows and Xbox diehards.

Whether you aced it or not, hopefully, it reminded you of how much depth Halo has and gave you a reason to look forward to stepping back onto the ring when Campaign Evolved drops.

With all that said, thanks for taking part, Spartan, and let us know just how well you did on X (Formerly Twitter), BlueSky, Facebook, or Threads.

When will Halo: Campaign Evolved release?

Halo: Campaign Evolved is currently slated to launch sometime in 2026. While Microsoft hasn’t shared an exact release date, many fans believe the studio may aim to align it with the original Halo: Combat Evolved’s anniversary window in November. This would mark a fitting tribute to the game that started it all, bringing the series full circle nearly 25 years later.

Will Halo: Campaign Evolved feature multiplayer?

No, Halo: Campaign Evolved won’t include a traditional multiplayer mode. Instead, it focuses entirely on the campaign experience, though players will still be able to team up. The game supports up to four players online with cross-play between platforms, and two-player split-screen locally. It’s designed to recreate the feel of the original campaign while offering new ways to experience it with friends.

What platforms will Halo: Campaign Evolved release on?

Halo: Campaign Evolved will debut on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and for the first time in franchise history, it’s also coming to PlayStation 5. This move marks a major moment for the series, expanding Halo’s reach beyond Xbox hardware and giving a new audience the chance to experience one of gaming’s most influential stories.

What’s new in Halo: Campaign Evolved over the original?

The remake introduces several major additions. Players can expect three brand-new prequel missions starring the Master Chief and Sergeant Avery Johnson, potentially offering more context to the story of the original Halo. However, current details on what we will see are unknown.

The campaign now supports four-player co-op for the first time, and the iconic Warthog has been slightly reworked to fit a full squad.

Beyond that, gameplay has been modernized. Players can now hijack vehicles, pilot Covenant Wraiths, and experiment with up to nine new weapons added to the sandbox, including the Energy Sword, which wasn’t originally usable in Halo: Combat Evolved. These changes aim to blend classic Halo design with modern mechanics while staying true to the spirit of the original.
