The simple way I fix Windows device problems, no panic needed

If I ever encounter device issues in Windows, say to my keyboard, printer, Bluetooth, USB, or audio playback I use the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT) which can run diagnostic packs to troubleshoot and fix issues.

It only takes a single command to use it, and it can save the hassle of reinstalling device drivers.

    What to do:

    • Open the Windows Run by pushing the Windows + R buttons.
    • Now type the following command in: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic. Press Enter.
    • At the menu click to Apply repairs automatically and click Next.
    • Windows will tell you what the fix is for a specific device, and you have the option to confirm or deny it.
    • Once the fix is applied, you can view detailed information or click close to finish.

Hopefully that’s resolved any device issues you have. If not, you’ll have to dive more deeply into Google.

That’s a wrap for this Try This tip. If you’d like more tips like this sent to your inbox each week, be sure to sign-up to our Try This newsletter.
