Pixel phones on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3.1 are experiencing Google Wallet errors

The stable Android 16 QPR1 update began rolling out to Pixel smartphones earlier this month. However, users who were part of the beta program had to wait until the “No Data Wipe” update was made available for their devices. While the update eventually appeared a couple of weeks later, not all users got it, including several Pixel users on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3.1.

These users now face more bad news, as multiple reports have emerged on Reddit detailing an error message that’s displayed while using Google Wallet (and Google Pay in some markets). Specifically, this is impacting users who have opted out of the Android beta program and are waiting patiently for the No Data Wipe update, which is taking forever to land.

As one of the affected users notes, opening Google Wallet displays a “Your device doesn’t meet security requirements” error, with the corresponding text suggesting that the user may be running “uncertified software.” Thankfully, Wallet doesn’t appear to be broken, with one individual pointing out that the app resumes normal functionality after tapping “Got it” on the error message (via 9to5Google).

Pixel VPN issues have also been spotted

Meanwhile, the folks at 9to5 also faced trouble using VPN by Google on a Pixel device running QPR1 Beta 3.1. The site reportedly encountered an “isn’t available for this account” error while trying to connect. Unlike the Google Wallet bug, however, Google’s built-in VPN service doesn’t work at all, making this a more serious issue for frequent users.

Re-enrolling in the beta program and upgrading to Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 is one way to remedy this problem, as 9to5 points out. However, not everybody may be willing to go down that route. It’s also worth noting that QPR2 Beta 2 is not bug-free either, with multiple reports pointing out the media player’s disappearance from the lock screen.

Unless you’re willing to make that switch, all you can do is wait for Google to roll out the No Data Wipe update for your Pixel phone, which may not arrive until October. No Data Wipe OTAs typically land not long after the stable version of the update rolls out, but that hasn’t been the case for Pixel devices on QPR1 Beta 3.1.

While it was initially believed that the No Data Wipe update had reached devices running Beta 3.1, that hasn’t been the case. Users on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 appear to have received the update, at least according to a Reddit thread from two weeks ago.
