We’ve heard a few times recently about Apple launching the iPhone 17 family with price hikes. As revealed today in a new research note by JPMorgan, things don’t seem to be that dire after all.

If the research note in question is accurate, then the iPhone 17 Pro will indeed get $100 more expensive than its predecessor, but it will get 256GB base storage too, double the amount of the iPhone 16 Pro which starts at 128GB – so in an Apples to Apples comparison, it’s actually the same price as the 256GB iPhone 16 Pro.

The iPhone 17 is expected to start at $799 just like its predecessor, while the iPhone 17 Air will either be the same ($899) price as the iPhone 16 Plus it’s replacing or $50 more at $949. Apple may chalk this up to the extended R&D that was necessary to come up with something that thin. Finally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max isn’t getting any price hike whatsoever, and will still start at $1,199 with 256GB of storage.

This would be good news for the US market, which is the only one these prices apply to, obviously. Whether there will actually be price increases elsewhere remains to be seen. Fortunately, we don’t have that much longer to wait to officially find out, as Apple’s iPhone 17 unveiling event is taking place on September 9, which is exactly one week from today.
