Google just sent out emails letting folks know that their Play Games profiles are going to be changing on September 23, 2025. As far as what kind of changes are coming, the profile will now include ‘gaming stats and milestones’ from games that have been installed from the Google Play Store.

However, Google also highlights that in order to get this information on your profile, it will need to collect data from you, like ‘which games you’ve played and when you’ve played them.’ Google also shares that it will use this data to improve the experience as well. The bad news is that there’s no way to opt out.

    Coming soon

Google also goes on to share in the email that developers will continue to receive information about your profile and your gaming activity. And developers will also continue to have the ability to send data to Google. The good news is that when the update goes live, your current settings will remain intact, which means you won’t have to do much when the changes roll out.

As of now, there doesn’t seem to be a way to opt out of this change. However, it appears that Google does include a subtle message aimed at those that are concerned about their data, sharing that you can delete your Play Games profile if you don’t want to use it or want it associated with your Google account.

Google takes things a step further by also reminding users that it’s also possible to delete your entire Google account as well. Of course, you probably won’t go that far, but deleting your Play Games profile is probably an option, in case you’re not really interested in the features it offers.

Again, the update is coming on September 23, 2025, so you’ll have about a month to make a decision before the new changes arrive. The good news is that Google Play Games isn’t a necessary part of the Android gaming experience. You can freely download and play games from the Play Store without it.
