September is here, and the best streaming services have once again updated their libraries with some great horror hits.

I’m impressed with this month’s line-up as we have a mix of classic horror, new arrivals and some underrated gems. Whether you want horror comedy, body horror, a Stephen King adaptation or an iconic zombie flick, it’s all here.

Check out my seven horror recommendations for what to stream in September.

    You may like

    Splinter

    When: September 1
Where: HBO Max (US); Plex (UK)

Gross body horror Splinter is perfect if you’re looking for a visceral movie to enjoy this month, even if you do spend some of it hiding behind your hands.

When a young couple and an escaped convict end up trapped in a secluded gas station, they’re forced to work together to escape a terrifying fungal parasite that infects and turns its victims into dangerous hosts.

It also doesn’t take itself too seriously and features some great scares, so this one is a crowdpleaser.

    Misery

    Watch On

    When: September 1
Where: HBO Max (US); rent or buy (UK, AU)

There’s plenty of Stephen King adaptations out there, with Welcome to Derry being the newest, but nothing beats Misery in my opinion.

I was so gripped by the book I read it in just three days, and the movie is just as good. The movie follows acclaimed novelist Paul Sheldon after he’s rescued following an accident by Annie Wilkes, a nurse who claims to be his biggest fan.

Annie is troubled though, and his stay at her home turns into a nightmare when she begins to physically and psychologically torment him. It’s every writer’s worst nightmare.

    Evil Dead II

    Watch On

    When: September 1
Where: HBO Max (US); Shudder (UK)

We’re kicking off a new month with some great comedy horror. Sam Raimi’s second installment is a real treat and interestingly, is considered both a remake and a sequel.

Bruce Campbell (recently seen in Peacock’s Hysteria!) reprises his role as Ash Williams, who vacations with his girlfriend to a remote cabin, because people in horror movies haven’t learned that’s a terrible idea yet.

There, he discovers an audio tape of recitations from a book of ancient text which unleashes a number of demons who possess and torment him.

    Cobweb

    Watch On

    When: September 19
Where: Netflix (US, UK); Stan (AU)

The Boys‘ Antony Starr and Fleishman Is in Trouble’s Lizzy Caplan play overbearing parents in this eerie horror movie.

When their son suddenly hears noises coming from behind his bedroom wall, his parents insist is in his imagination. But it does nothing to calm him down and he begins to worry they are hiding something from him.

Samuel Bodin’s directorial debut was met with a mixed response from critics, but I think it’s well worth checking out now it’s streaming.

    Night of the Reaper

    When: September 19
    Where: Shudder (worldwide)

We don’t have a trailer for Night of the Reaper just yet, but this one was too intriguing to pass up.

The movie is set in 1980’s suburbia, exactly one year after a young woman is brutally murdered by babysitter killer ‘The Reaper’. When Deena, the woman’s sister, steps in to babysit the town Sheriff’s son the evening escalates with “shocking and unexpected results”.

There’s a bit of a wait for this one, arriving on Shudder on September 19, but I’m excited to see it.

    Watch On

    When: September 26
    Where: Shudder (worldwide)

TikTok star Kris Collins directed and starred Night on Eden, which is streaming on Shudder worldwide from September 26.

Collins is joined by other social media sensations Celina Myers and Jason-Christopher Myers for this movie, playing two paranormal investigators and a videographer who are off on a new case.

After being mysteriously rerouted to an abandoned house in the woods, they find themselves facing a force unlike anything they’ve encountered before.

    Watch On

    When: September 30
Where: AMC+, Pluto TV (US); Rent or buy (UK); Prime Video (AU)

If you’ve seen 28 Years Later, which TechRadar rated five-stars, you might want to go back and rewatch the original.

While UK fans still struggle to find it outside of rentals, it’s streaming on AMC+ and Prime Video for US and Austalian audiences. It’s well worth checking out Danny Boyle’s zombie masterpiece, which is still iconic over two decades later.

With an excellent cast playing a group of survivors after a deadly outbreak, and some seriously impressive shots, it remains one of my favorite movies of all time.
